Credit where credit is due: Ashley Tisdale does have a new gig after all.

Three weeks ago, when discussing the film career of Zac Efron, I made references to how the rest of the High School Musical cast wasn't doing nearly as well as he was after the principals left the franchise. I specifically mentioned Ashley Tisdale, and basically implied that she was having trouble finding work outside of the franchise because she was returning to the fourth film and playing Sharpay in a spin-off film. Well, in all fairness, she has a co-starring role in a new television series premiering just next month. It's called Hellcats, it airs on the CW, and it's about cheerleaders. Anything other than that I'll leave to you (although it's nice that Sharon Leal of Boston Public, Dreamgirls, and Why Did I Get Married? will get a steady paycheck), I just thought I owed Ms. Tisdale a mea culpa.

isn't she too old to play a cheerleader?

She's 25, so it's not that much older than the norm (I graduated from college at 23). Maybe her character is planning on being a doctor? In all seriousness, she still looks young enough to pull it off, so it's not too unusual. Tragic nose job aside (she pulled a Jennifer Grey), she still looks as attractive as her Suite Life of Zack and Cody days (my wife introduced me to that one...).

She can pull it off and what she loves doing is acting... she was with Disney way before HSM fame and she's humble enough to stay there and be true to that company/that fanbase. I don't discount her for it. If anything, I think she's great. She's under the radar and seems very professional. Also, she worked really hard for Hellcats. The role was physically demanding, she trained up for it and got healthier and stronger. She's dedicated... so yeah, you're right to give credit where it's due.

Ashley does have a steady gig as the voice of Candace in the hit cartoon "Phineas and Ferb" on Disney Channel. I think that qualifies as a steady paycheck.

I've heard good things about Phineas and Ferb. Perhaps I'll try to get my daughter into watching it. Although she's strictly into Nickelodeon these days (Dora, Diego, Wonder Pets, Yo Gabba Gabba, etc).
