Now this is how you cut a trailer for a sword and sandal action picture. Yes, I hate the hard-rock music too, as it's an all-too obvious ploy to appeal to the 300 fanbase. Something like this should have Gregorian chanting in the background. But unlike last week's Prince of Persia misfire, this one actually delivers the goods. You have enormous scope and scale, ample action and adventure, giant monsters, bottomless pits of fire, people plunging into said bottomless pits of fire, and just enough glimpses of the high-quality cast (Pete Postlethwaite, Danny Huston, Liam Neeson, and Ralph Fiennes) to let people know that this is a real movie. Sure, this is probably going to be trash, and once again the female lead seems to be imperiled in every scene, but it certainly looks like fun trash. I can think of no more enjoyable way to reunite Neeson and Fiennes seventeen-years after Schindler's List than having them square off as Zues and Hades. Warner Bros. puts this one out on March 26th, 2010.
