The net has been buzzing with all kinds of speculative silliness regarding 'clues' that can be deduced from this first official image from Marc Webb's Spider-Man reboot. Here's what we know: Andrew Garfield plays Peter Parker. Peter Parker is secretly Spider-Man. Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man wears a costume that's pretty similar to the comics and/or Tobey Maguire's suit from the Ram Raimi trilogy, but with a darker red/blue color scheme. Peter Parker apparently carries his backpack around with him at one point in the film, or perhaps only in this photo. Other than that, stop the speculation, people. It's a terrifically moody photo, and the blood on his face is a nice touch.I'm sure we'll hear all kinds of chit-chat about how 'dark and grim' this new Spider-Man is, which is funny as I thought the first Sam Raimi picture was pretty glum. Sure, it's bright and colorful as all hell, but is there any character who isn't a miserable mental wreck for more than thirty seconds at any point in the picture? It's such a bummer that it ends with the funeral for the villain, for goodness sake! Anyway, I'm sure we'll be seeing more photos and/or posters in the next couple months, with a brief teaser probably debuting with one of the various summer tent poles. Logic would dictate that a new Spider-Man teaser would debut with Thor or Captain America, but I'm hoping Sony decides to extend its middle finger to their fellow Marvel brethren and debut said teaser with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part II or, even better, with Green Lantern.
