This looked absolutely stunning when it played before screenings of
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in IMAX 3D, and it looks pretty grand here. I've been a big fan of Robert Zemeckis's previous IMAX 3D experiments (
The Polar Express in IMAX 3D is still the most amazing 3D presentation I've ever seen), so I imagine I'll be impressed here. What's worth noting is the astounding detail given to the eyes of various characters. This is no doubt a response to the oft-repeated criticism of
The Polar Express, that of characters having 'dead eyes'. Problem apparently solved. Expect this one to outgross the vastly underrated
Beowulf ($82 million) in about a week. It opens November 6th, kicking off the holiday movie season.
