All hail the remake! The original Stepfather to get a special edition DVD release!

I'm now the biggest fan of the upcoming remake of The Stepfather. Because, as I had hoped, the PG-13 remake of this under seen 1987 classic (which was itself a variation of Alfred Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt) will now receive a special edition DVD release from Shout! Factory to coincide with the theatrical release of the 2.0 variation. Pre-orders are available now at Amazon for the October 13th release. The sequel Stepfather II: Make Room For Daddy, which I have never seen, will also get a new DVD. As for the original picture , there will be a widescreen transfer, with a commentary by director Joseph Ruben and a new documentary ('Stepfather Chronicles') that will apparently feature "interviews with director Joseph Ruben, producer Jay Benson, actress Jill Schoelen, author Brian Garfield and others on the making of the film and its enduring legacy". I'm disappointed that star Terry O'Quinn (whose performance deserved an Oscar nomination that year) doesn't seem to be directly involved, but I suppose we can't have everything.

Anyway, this is good news for fans of this genuinely terrific suspense picture.
