That happened during the original Hobbit tale. Tolkein only hinted at it in The Hobbit, and later expanded on it in the Silmarilion.

Don't you realize that this trilogy is shaping up to be just as epic as the LOTR series? Despite being crammed into just a few hundred pages, the original The Hobbit (which Tolkein wrote FIRST mind you) is actually quite an epic story happening parallel to many other major events in the mythology of Middle Earth.

I'm disappointed in so many reviews having clearly missed these points. Your cynical take on the film is frustrating, when you clearly know too little about the source material to appreciate it.Tom Bombadilnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6937848248469121586.post-17307478243161359952012-12-17T09:17:13.566-08:002012-12-17T09:17:13.566-08:00Bilbo's arc is selfishness turns to selflessne...Bilbo's arc is selfishness turns to selflessness Ziserwahnnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6937848248469121586.post-79763713144084248802012-12-17T01:42:46.126-08:002012-12-17T01:42:46.126-08:00> "No" to shooting on 48 fps until t...> "No" to shooting on 48 fps until the technology had advanced to the point where it would make his adventure feel *more* cinematic instead of less so.

What, pray tell, do you mean by this? Do you think there are technical problems with the implementation of 48 FPS in The Hobbit, either from shooting or projection? Surely this isn't the case, and viewers are just upset because they're so used to 24 FPS.Thomas Shaddoxhttp://www.facebook.com/tshaddoxnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6937848248469121586.post-46850581827548993232012-12-15T09:31:52.177-08:002012-12-15T09:31:52.177-08:00Your thoughts mirror my own...except on the 48fps ...Your thoughts mirror my own...except on the 48fps issue. I loved it. It was mesmerizing. For 3D, it's higher frame rate or nothing in my book.

And yes, that Man of Steel trailer in the theatre was majestic. I think that film is going to stun audiences.corysimsnoreply@blogger.com
